Epiphany 7...

... A precursor to Ash Wednesday and Lent!

I waited this time on purpose before releasing Sunday's bulletin and sermon. My hope is that it will help set the tone for tomorrow and lent.

Sermon: (unfortunately I was only able to have it up for a short time as the recorder kept going... making for a very large file. In my attempt to cut, the codec made the file longer still: I am sorry to all those with dialup) VOICE012.mp3

Mardi Gras & the Eve of Lent

Shrove Tuesday! A Day for Fun, pancakes, fatty foods, deserts, coffee, cheese cakes, french fries, beer and whatall. Why? Because tomorrow we begin the 40 days of Lent (40 days not including Sundays which are always celebration days, for the Lord is Risen. It is his day! The Lord's Day; therefore on Sunday be joyful!).

It is a season for reflection and sobriety, turning to Christ through sacrifice, alms giving, and conscious decision making. We reflect for 10% of the year on Christ's Love for us and our response. This is not a time to neglect our Church. We, if not going to church, should most definitely do so! Our Saviour died on the cross for us and our sin, so what is our response to this love? How have we told God we love him? This is the time to show God our love and to remind ourselves not to neglect our Lord by sacrificing something, so that when we "crave" we are reminded of the temptations of our Lord in the desert and the sacrifice in the Garden of Gethemine. We crave and remember because of our weakness, a weakness that Christ recognizes on the cross: it is forgiveness he offers!

Whatever you give up or take on, when you fall short, or crave what you have sacrificed, be reminded of God's ultimate love for us on the Cross. On Sunday's go to church, enjoy the things you have given up for those 6 days, reminded of the great joy that comes through his glorious Resurrection.

Epiphany 6: SERMON

Goodness gracious! "Now he posting old sermons." Yes I am. This one is from the week when we held our annual general meeting in the Church of the Good Shepherd, Florenceville. Forty-Seven people attended the meeting later that morning, with a break in the middle for lunch.

Jean's Birthday

You may have thought I was all done... OH NO! Jean, our beloved organist in Greenfield and Florenceville celebrated a birthday on Thursday. As we are all together we had a great cake and a round of song!

Next Thursday its Marjorie's and since it is Lent we will have something like Garlic Cake :-D

Cameron's Birthday

Same day as the bishop's visit and Vestry, first of this new season, was Cameron's Teen birthday: 13! He got gold! (ask him sometime).

Bishop's Visit 2006

This week our Lord Bishop of Fredericton, the Rt. Rev'd Claude Miller, came to the Parish of Wicklow, Wilmot, Peel and Aberdeen for a weekday morning Eucharist, followed by a lunch and a Deanery Clericus meeting. It was a great a wonderful day ended by a visit to the Riverview Manor.

Updates are On there Way

Well I thought I would have updates, and though pictures have been taken and I have lots of stuff to say (when am I ever at a loss of words?), I have found that there were many other things I had to do.

By tonight I should have some updates. Sorry to all for my tardiness.

Epiphany 6

Vestry, or the Annual General Meeting, had taken up the majority of my time these past few weeks and so I have been absent on the blog. But am overjoyed to say that it was a wonderful "family" meeting. Honesty, candour and respect were the hall marks of this great meeting. I am particularly thankful that over 40 individuals attended the meeting, up more than double; this a testimony to their commitment.

Epiphany 5

There has been a slow down here on the blog. Blame annual meetings and the efforts involved in organizing the business of the parish.

Real Coastal Weather

I usually associate weather on the coast in the winter with snow, this past weekend it was wind. I invite you to look at Roxanne and David's blog for what wind is really like. Marty and Colinda, a friend and former Warden's house is shown in some of these pictures.
