Lent Event 2007

Though not PWRDF the intention is right... give up for the sake of the Kingdom of God! Lent is a time to give alms, this is one of those ways.

PWRDF

This coming Sunday is designated as PWRDF Sunday in the Diocese of Fredericton. I encourage everyone to take a look at this website in order to better understand the mission of this great ministry: http://www.pwrdf.org/resources/hivaids-resources/#c1282

World Book? Brittanic? Move Over

I remember the first encyclopedia I ever looked at, it was bought by my parents and presented to me as a young boy. I still recall spending hours turning pages and looking at the pictures occasionally reading the articles as I found interest.

Today life has changed and yet is the same, no longer do we turn to the big and heavy books but now to the big and heavy computers. My sons still look over the Internet information like I did, looking at images first and then reading as interest is perked.

My little offering is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anglican_Church_of_Canada it's Wikipedia and is edited by the public. It might be dangerous, but 90% of the time it is highly accurate. Check out the above site on the Canadian Anglican Church.

Check this site out as it also shows the differences in the BAS and BCP calendar. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Calendar_of_saints_%28Anglican_Church_of_Canada%29

Who is Jesus?

When we ask today people may say that guy in the archelogist's box. But far worse than that, which is all hype with no substance, is the belief that Jesus was just a good guy. He didn't leave that option for us. he is either God or a Liar, and if a liar then he is a devil and not in anyway a good man. Listen and watch this video for it provokes this generation to think beyond their own plurlist ways.

Church of England: Daily Office

I encourage everyone who stumbles by my humble dot com site to spend time searching the Anglican World Wide Web. Go and Google, YouTube etc, the term "Anglican" or "Lent" or some word or phrase concerning faith. Be diligent and shuffle through some of the garbage and I promise you will find gems of faith and encouragement.

Once again today, and Oh My I have done my share of blogging, I have found another wonderful tool for those who turn to daily prayer as part of their spiritual journey with Our Lord:

http://www.i-church.org/cms/worship

The above is a link to the Church of England site.

Collect for 1st Sunday of Lent

iChurch is cutting edge techology-church mission and is produced by The Church of England! It is wonderful to know that the Anglican Church considers electronic media as having a role to play in proclaimation.

Ethiopian Devotion

Most of us think of our faith and it's liturgical expression in terms of our "Western" norms epecially when it comes to hymns and chant.

Here is an offering this day for something so very old that it may be the stuff sung 1700+ years ago. I encourage you to pray through this as you make devotion and prayer to our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.

Decaffeinated Lent

This is an interesting video, more for the irony than the devotional value. I'm also sure there is an implied Biblical rule about littering :-) What is nice about this video (apart from the music which I like very much lol) is the attempt to make the viewer "think".

Scripture, Tradition, and Reason Puppet Show (Episcopal)

Once again, another of Father Matthew's presentations. Let's think through Lent! Let's Pray through Lent! Let's Worship through Lent! Let's Give Alms by giving to people in need, through Lent! Why not do all of this all the time?

Ash Wednesday: Major Fast Day

Today is a major fast day in the life of the Church. We are to mark this day, the beginning of Lent, with great sacrifice that we might remember the even greater sacrifice our Lord Jesus Christ gave so that we might not die, but live forever. So at least for today, do much less that makes you happy, and abstain from selfish ways today, in order to remind you of Chirst!

Yesterday many recalled the joy of life by indulging in various ways, some with "Mardi Gras" others with heavy pancakes and rich syrup, the reason being is that today we end the indulgence and join together as a community of faith by walking the path of Christ, by confession sin, alms giving (giving to the poor and needy without question) and by fasting, all in order to remind us of our role in the Cross of Christ and to take on a greater awareness of our Lord as he bids us come to be sanctified; therefore PRAY MORE. So.......

1) Eat less food this day, and in your hunger remember your spiritual hunger and feed that!

2) Give to someone in need and do not question, give fast so that you do not know what you are doing. And never regret a gift given.

3) Confess the things you have done against God and neighbor and the things you have not done and that you should have done. Pray and ask God for guidance and for gosh sakes listen and look for God's response... he will answer you clearly, just expect an answer.

4) Go to Church this very day and receive Communion, The Eucharist, and at a service receive the Ashes where you are to recall that "you are but dust and to dust you shall return". At the same time, recall that you shall be raised by Him who suffered on the Cross for your Redemption. And for that reason alone you are to do all the above with a cheerful heart!

Here is what our Lord said about giving up stuff, sacrificing and generally giving to God (Matthew 6:1-6, 16-21: NRSV)

“Beware of practicing your piety before others in order to be seen by them; for then you have no reward from your Father in heaven.

2 “So whenever you give alms, do not sound a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, so that they may be praised by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward. 3 But when you give alms, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, 4 so that your alms may be done in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you.

5 “And whenever you pray, do not be like the hypocrites; for they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners, so that they may be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward. 6 But whenever you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you.

16 “And whenever you fast, do not look dismal, like the hypocrites, for they disfigure their faces so as to show others that they are fasting. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward. 17 But when you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face, 18 so that your fasting may be seen not by others but by your Father who is in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you.

19 “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust consume and where thieves break in and steal; 20 but store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust consumes and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

Sidebar & Main Links

The Sidebar Calendar has been updated to 2007, and it's the Lay Reader Copy. Other sidebar issues and links will be updated over the next few days. Most of the main pages have now been formatted to meet this current "Dark Blue" style.

As I looked through 2006 and 2005 it seems like February has always been a time to update webstuff.

Don't Adjust Your Screens

Hold on to your shades, the colour changes are on there way. It's just going to be bit by bit.

Sermon #21: Father Matthew Presents

I encourage you to look this priest up on YouTube, for he is very very good... I must say I'm becoming a big fan :-)

This talk on Sermon writing hits the mark (oh my, back to it then for me).

lvl 19 twink Mornoth The knight of blue flame

This is a character of Andrew's on World of Warcraft. He made this video himself... the things we can do now a days.

Eureka!

Well it seems Blogger will let me do as I please, so now it's time to get out my dusty old video recorder (finding the adapter might be a challenge lol) and begin to get a system of order so that you can finally "expect" to find something new on this poor old blog of mine.

Again a new look will come, more than likely with the familiar "eyes" of Father Douglas. Either way, I hope to now include some short videos and move to some "youth" content.

Sermons will return and my hope is to get them out by Sunday evening along with the bulletin, which either will appear on Saturday afternoon or Sunday along with the sermon. For the moment, part of my Lenten observance will be to provide regular posts... as you all well know it has been a struggle this past year and my desire is to continue this bloggy ministry.

Blessings for your Patience, Trust in the Lord!

Continuing to test the possibilities, here's a great test and a very good "podcast"!!!!

Morning Prayer Podcast

Sometimes I find some gems on the Web and wish to share them with you. Here is a great site for those who wish to enter into the meditation and prayer found in the form of Morning Prayer:

Taking Longer

I guess that sums it up. But so you have a better understanding of what my hope is....

1) to possibly leave Blogger behind and use Wordpress.

2) to be able to put up Video Podcast files

3) to have a blog / forum set up on the Brookwood page.

4) to have a separate blog for hobbie friends

5) attractive and not hard on the eyes

6) make myself attractive and not hard on the eyes :-p

7) To intergrate polls and more interactive elements

8) to present a more full picture of the parish to which I serve

9) to provide more family pictures for friends

10) TO ACTUALLY FIND TIME TO GET STARTED

A Few Picture Tests: Family

Moveing to 2.0

Just to get a picture of where I'm headed with the web content, check out this article http://web2.wsj2.com/

Winds of Change: Birth Pangs

Well slowly but surely things will change in the look of the site. ATM I have just switched the template. I will get to manipulating the familiar "eyes" to meet a new style once that style is established.

I may still switch from Blogger to another bloging program: http://wordpress.org/

Let's wait and see :-)
