Happy Black Friday?

Ya, I don't get it either. I'm reminded of some medieval dark day when the plague hit but alas it's a sale! For us Canadians we have Boxing day. That at least makes sense, you box up your old gifts or box up the gifts you intend to return, but Black Friday? Why so morbid? Maybe it's because people get shot... it is the U S of A, things like that happen in line ups. And they do line up, often the day before as they digest copious amounts of Turkey, fixin's and the rest of the excesses of such a holiday. And you know what? My guess wasn't far off... read below from Wikipedia.com (online encyclopedia):
The earliest uses of "Black Friday" refer to the heavy traffic on that day, an implicit comparison to the extremely stressful and chaotic experience of Black Tuesday (the 1929 stock-market crash) or other black days. The earliest known references to "Black Friday" (in this sense) are from two newspaper articles from November 29, 1975, that explicitly refer to the day's hectic nature and heavy traffic. The first reference is in an article entitled "Army vs. Navy: A Dimming Splendor," in The New York Times:
Philadelphia police and bus drivers call it "Black Friday" - that day each year between Thanksgiving Day and the Army-Navy game. It is the busiest shopping and traffic day of the year in the Bicentennial City as the Christmas list is checked off and the Eastern college football season nears conclusion.
The derivation is made even more explicit in an Associated Press article entitled "Folks on Buying Spree Despite Down Economy," which ran in the Titusville Herald on the same day:
Store aisles were jammed. Escalators were nonstop people. It was the first day of the Christmas shopping season and despite the economy, folks here went on a buying spree. . . . . "That's why the bus drivers and cab drivers call today 'Black Friday,'" a sales manager at Gimbels said as she watched a traffic cop trying to control a crowd of jaywalkers. "They think in terms of headaches it gives them."
Both articles have a Philadelphia dateline, suggesting the term may have originated in that area.
WOW what fun... enjoy the day... I think?

Vlog Nov 22 2007
This is a little test for the Blog. I'm seeing how fast i can get this up on Blogger and then on Wordpress and lastly on my iWeb.
Blog within a Blog
1) Blogger takes forever to load my sermons
2) Blogger has some good templates, but the one I'm using isn't what I want anymore but...
3) to Change the template means that the rest of the site, and yes there are many pages on this site, need to be completely redone. I'm unsure if starting from scratch isn't a better option.
4)The interface is very old school and I want more options and an easier interface / dashboard when entering my blogs, videos and podcasts.
Those are my mains issues. So there are 2 options, going to Wordpress or going to iWeb. The former means loads of templates etc but again am I just replacing one web based app for another? What is a "web app"? instead of having the program on your computer the program is on the web. Practically you can go anywhere and on anyones machine and still be able to blog. The later option is nice for me with my mac at home, but since the app is on my machine it means I'm bound to my home machine until I can blog from a mac lappy... and that isn't going to happen for a year at least.
So I'm fooling around at the moment ("atm" is the short form of that :-) and have put A BLOG WITHIN A BLOG on the pastorpainter site, go to http://www.pastorpainter.com/iweb/Site/Blog/Blog.html You'll find it is a whole site within a site. The other little offering I have is on wordpress at http://pastorpainter.wordpress.com/
If your worried that you'll miss something don't worry all "real" posts will be here on the traditional pastorpainter site.

Pictures turned into Vectors

Why is this an important site? Anyone who publishes to the web knows that if you increase the size of a picture it become jagged or rastersized... in other words pixilated. This site turns your images into vector graphics where math is employed to create an image that will not change no matter how large or small. Try it out, http://vectormagic.stanford.edu/
The Friends of Mr. Cairo
CHOM FM in Montreal used to play this in the late evening. Whenever it came on in the mid-80's I'd just stop and become mesmerized by the music and the lyrics. For old film buffs you'll enjoy this. Also don't think it's over too early, there are a number of "movements" and the last bit gets quite quiet. It's 10 mins you won't regret no matter your age.

Sakura: Paintah
Here in this WAV file is Andrew on Bass, "Paco" (Thierry) on Drums, Wesley on Guitar and Tania (a new student from Columbia who later played a classical Columbia piece that blew everyone away, she got a well deserved standing ovation), playing a Japanese Anime song "Sakura" enjoy! And oh ya, Andrew has only been playing Bass since May. Listen carefully this really is a very very difficult piece for a bunch of 16 year olds.

Katlyn
It is not always permissible to show those who are on our parish prayer list, which appears each week in the bulletin. But in this case it is a blessing to be able to share Katlyn's story with you. In the bulletin her name is misspelled Caitlyn. Drop into her blog and find out more about this remarkable girl and her family.

Visit to St. Margaret's
I can't express how impressed I was to visit St. Margaret's in Fredericton. Canon Lownds showed me around his church, built in 1999.
The hexagonal shape is perfect, and it's my personal belief that this is how a modern church should be built. It's cost effective, communal and witnesses in architecture the understanding of being in fellowship. This is a wonderful structure in which to minister as well as conduct the liturgy.
Cameron at Diocesan Council
The title says it all, though I might add that maybe it was a case of "suffer the little children to come unto me." The seventh was go to school with a parent day and it just so happened that it was council. And I must say that council treated Cameron with the utmost respect and involvement. As a parent i was overjoyed to see that cam equally offered enthusiasm and engagement.

Christian Guy Totally Owns Mormons - Watch more free videos
I am Very impressed with this mans ability to proclaim Christ. He's a little rough around the edges but makes a strong point, one we should all strive to understand about those who try and say the Bible needs more explanation or needs a secret explained by another testimony.

Guido Fawkes!

.jpeg)
Happy Guy Fawkes day... be careful with your effigy!
The Gunpowder Plot? read on... it was devised in May 1604 by Robert Catesby. It was intended as a protest against the monarch, King James I, primarily as an objection to another Roman Catholic ruler of England. The target was to assassinate the King, and as many members of parliament as possible, by blowing up the Houses of Parliament on November 5th.
Guy was caught red handed. doh.
As they say "Remember, Remember, the 5th of November!"
