St. Augustine's; St. Augustin, Duplessie

St. Augustine's has not traditionally been a part of St. Clement's East. In January 2005 this congregation has been restored to the "Centre."

For five years the church of St. Augustine was counted among the "East." During this time the community saw the "minister" once a month, Monday or Tuedays at 7:00 PM, and in emergencies.

New ministries are emerging as lay people have taken on more leadership roles out of necessity throughout the Coast, and in the diocese in general. There continues to be hope that the Parish of St. Clement's Centre, Mutton Bay, La Tabattier and St. Augustin, will once again have a full-time priest. In February 2005, Randy Murray, a postulant in the Diocese of Quebec, will begin an extended ministry amoung the people of this wonderful region. It may be that this part of the coast will have students as their main ministers. It remains unclear what the future holds.

The congregation consists of 126 families. The community is one of the largest on the Coast with well over 700 people living in the village each fall and winter. Due to the economy of the region the workforce gains their main employment abroad spending up to 6 months away from home. The majority of the community is Roman Catholic and there is a native community, Pakua-Shipi, across the river with a population of 325.

The ACW is the lifeblood of this church and has contributed to the renewal of the building. Their hope and faithfulness is indeed a blessing to all who minister with them. The main fundraising is done through donations, bingo and home-made quilts.

It was a privilage to serve you.
